(Suhbah in progress.)

So cannot Allah (swt) do that? Yes, by “Kun fayakoon.” Does He even need to say, “Kun”? He doesn’t need to say “Kun!” even. Scholars said, wa amruhu bayna ‘l-kaafi wa ‘n-noon, “His Order, His will, is between the [letters] kaaf and noon,” before He finishes...He doesn’t need to say, “Noon”, His Affair and Order is in-between. Some awliyaullah say, “Before the kaaf, His Will will be there.” When the Essence, Allah’s Essence, which no one knows, as He said: qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, where Huwa means the Absolute Unknown Unknowable Divine Essence. When from His Essence the Will for Allah to create comes, that Will immediately goes to Ismullah al-Khaaliq, the Divine Name, The Creator, and from that ocean Creation comes. So Creation comes from the Name al-Khaaliq. When Allah’s Will comes to create anything, Ismu ‘l-Khaaliq immediately acts on it; it executes or implements Allah’s Will by putting the blueprint of that Creation which goes to the Bahr al-Qudra, the Ocean of Power, where it appears. Allah, Subhaanahu wa Ta`ala!

So we say, “Yaa Rabbee! We are Your weak servants coming to Your Door. You never closed Your Door to anyone. We are coming and we are regretful of our mistakes and sins!” What does Allah (swt) want from His servants? To repent and to ask forgiveness. Allah is asking repentance from His servants, “Come!” Like how people go to masjid. For what? It is a sign of: “Yaa Rabbee, we are coming to Your House for forgiveness, and You are the One, laa tukhayyib `abdan, You don't put down, disappoint any one of Your servants. We are Your guests.” If Allah is teaching us to be hospitable to a guest, how do you think that Allah (swt) will host His guests when they are coming to His Door? Does He shut the door or does He have an open door?

I heard from Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, that Baab at-Tawbah, the Door of Forgiveness is open until the Day of Resurrection. It means until there is no life on Earth that Baab at-Tawbah is open, the Door of Repentance is open! And He said if your sins are as wide as from East to West, you have a lot of sins, Allah (swt) will stretch His East and West to contain your sins and will not let anyone be lost, to say, “O! Allah did not forgive me.” Haasha, Allah will forgive!

Qul yaa `ibadiya ’Lladheena asrafoo `alaa anfusihim laa taqnatoo min rahmatillaahi inna Allaaha yaghfiru ’dh-dhunooba jamee`an innahu huwa ’l-ghafooru ‘r-raheem.
Say, "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, for Allah forgives all sins for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat al-Zumar, 39:53)

“Say, yaa Muhammad, to My Servants, who asrafoo `alaa anfusihim, have transgressed the limits on themselves, they did a lot of sins.” When He says, “Asrafoo,” it means excessively, too many sins that your hair will become white listening to someone who has excessive sins. He is telling Prophet (s) in the Holy Qur’an, “Say to them, yaa Rasoolullah! Those who have excessive sins, don’t lose hope, laa taqnatoo min rahmatillah, don’t despair of Allah's Mercy! Inna Allaaha yaghfiru ’dh-dhunooba jamee`an, verily Allah forgives all sins.”

Who is the Mercy of Allah? Who did Allah dress with Mercy? Sayyidina Muhammad (s)! So don’t think that he will not be with you, be near you, interceding for you, and that ayah is an order for the ummah. Allah is telling him, Allah is ordering the Prophet (s), “Qul, say!” and he (s) cannot say “no” because, “I dressed you with Mercy in order to build them up.” Qul yaa `ibaadiya ’Lladheena asrafoo `alaa anfusihim laa taqnatoo min rahmatillaah, “Don’t despair of Allah's Mercy.”

It means don't despair of the Prophet (s), keep your eyes focused on him as he is the door, he is the Qaaba Qawsayni aw Adnaa, he is the one who reached there, he is already there! So you need to follow his footsteps to reach there and you need his guidance. Allah (swt) is saying, “When you are entering the Ocean of Rahmah, when you are not in despair of His Rahmah,” which is the Mercy He dressed the Prophet (s) with, “you are there, then at that time you are ready to be forgiven, inna Allaaha yaghfiru ’dh-dhunooba jamee`an.” Allah didn’t say, inna Allaaha yaghfiru ’dh-dhunoob, “Allah forgives you from sins,” but He said, inna Allaaha yaghfiru ’dh-dhunooba jamee`an, “Allah forgives you from all sins!”

It means, “Whatever you have done of excessive sins, even if it’s too much, whatever you have done in your life of sins I am forgiving.” Allah will forgive, innahu Huwa ‘l-Ghafooru ‘r-Raheem, “He is The One Who Forgives and is Raheem, The Compassionate.” Do you think if you call on Him, saying, “Yaa Ghafoor! Yaa Ghafoor! Yaa Ghafoor!” any sin will stay on you? Just now when we said, “Yaa Ghafoor, yaa Ghafoor,” all our sins are gone, not because I can see that they are gone, but because all our minds and hearts will have a good thought of our Lord, as the hadith states:

أَنَا عِنْدَ حُسْنِ ظَنِّ عَبْدِي بِي
Anaa `inda husni zhanna `abdee bee.
I am according to the good thinking of My Servant of Me. (Hadith Qudsi)

We are having good thinking of You, yaa Rabbee, that You are going to forgive us in dunya and Akhirah! Ameen, yaa Rabbi ’l-`Alameen! We are excessively transgressing the limits now, but when His servants transgress the boundaries and limits, Allah likes them to ask for forgiveness every moment in their life, even all our life, and we say, “Yaa Ghafoor! Yaa Ghafoor! Yaa Ghafoor!” or “Yaa `Afoow! Yaa `Afoow! Yaa `Afoow!” all our life without stopping and Allah (swt) will be happy with us. Allah (swt) has Ninety-Nine Names, so call on Him asking Him through any Name you like as it is the hadith of the Prophet (s).

So if we say, “Yaa Rabbee, make our days and nights, make all our years on the same manifestation of the Beautiful Names and Attributes that you send on the last hour of Friday, to make them all like that,” and you are asking and saying, “Yaa `Afoow, yaa Ra’oof, yaa Rahmaan, yaa Hannaan, yaa Mannaan, yaa Dayyaan, yaa Subhaan, yaa Dayyaan,” would He say no? He says, “Come to Me with all your sins, My Doors are open from East to West!” There is no exit, you enter, but no exit. When you enter inside and it is wrapped, so let us say from the day of birth to this moment, everything is inside now wrapped in it, because you asked forgiveness, so Allah will forgive. So now from this moment forward, if you want to exit to bad `amal you can and if you want to exit to good `amal you can, but that exit is very tight. But most people will exit, because Shaytan tries to stretch them like rubber; he makes them to be like rubber and you become so slim, not like a plasma TV, like LED TV, very thin and can have all your data inside like computers, but from that moment now backwards, with Allah's Mercy on us it is forgiven.

Anaa `inda husni zhanna `abdee bee. Hold fast to that hadith of the Prophet (s) and don’t let it go. “I am according to the good thoughts of My Servant about Me.” Whenever you have good thoughts you will be saved and Allah will forgive you. If you have doubts, be careful as you cannot play here: either you have belief 100%, or if your belief is slightly shaky, the digital thermometer or Heavenly Balance can check it. If we believe and then we did a sin, still we believe in the first part, that Allah will forgive us, He will forgive you. Now if you commit a sin, okay, immediately remember that you can ask for repentance and the doors are open from East to West. Come to Allah (swt) and don't go to anyone else as they are not going to give you anything if Allah does not want!

Awliyaullah make du`a for you, but they are expecting something from you: that you show interest in order that they can present you to the Prophet (s). The farthest they can go is to the Prophet (s) and the Prophet (s) can go to Allah (swt). Also in your prayers, in your du`a, you go to Allah (swt), but Allah said in Holy Qur'an, “First you have to be in the presence of the Prophet (s) for your du`a to be accepted or for that wali’s du`a to be accepted:”

Wa law annahum idh zhalamoo anfusahum ja’ooka f ’astaghfaroollaaha w ’astaghfara lahumu ‘r-rasoolu la-wajadoo ’Llaaha tawwaaba ‘r-raheema.
If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:64)

“If they oppressed themselves they must first come to you, yaa Muhammad!” They have to come to that presence as we just said, that Allah dressed Prophet (s) from His Mercy. So first you have to come to that Mercy, then Allah will forgive your sins. So here in this ayah you have to come to the Prophet (s) first, as stated openly, wa law annahum idh zhalamoo anfusahum ja’ooka f ’astaghfaroollaaha, “They come to you, yaa Muhammad, and they ask Allah for forgiveness, but for it to be accepted you (s) have to make istighfaar on their behalf, w ’astaghfara lahumu ‘r-rasoolu la-wajadoo ’Llaaha tawwaaba ‘r-raheema, and they will find that Allah has forgiven them.”

Anaa `inda husni zhanna `abdee bee, “I am according to what My Servant thinks about Me,” which means good thoughts. Here we are having good thoughts of Allah by going to His Door, Sayyidina Muhammad (s), as Allah is ordering us, so we have it in our hearts, we believe, “Yaa Rabbee! Don’t shake our belief, keep our belief strong in You and in Your Prophet (s) and in Your Awliya!” Then we will be able to move forward and we will be cleaned from any sins, whatever it is, only not to lie.

One time the Sahaabah (r) asked the Prophet (s), “Yaa Rasoolullah! Does the mu’min steal or rob?" The Prophet (s) replied, "Perhaps." They asked, "Does the mu’min make zinaa (adultery)?" The Prophet (s) replied, "Perhaps." They asked, "Does the mu’min steal?" The Prophet (s) replied, “Perhaps.” Then they asked him, "Does the mu’min lie?" To this the Prophet (s) replied, "This, no!" Then the Prophet (s) followed it by (reciting), “Only they invent falsehood who believe not Allah's revelations, and (only) they are the liars.” [Surat al-Nahl, 16:105] (Kanzu ’l-`Ummal, 8994)

The Sahaabah (r) came to the Prophet (s) and they asked him, hal al-mu’min yasruq, “Yaa Rasoolullah! Does the believer steal?” The Prophet (s) said, rubbamaa, “Might be.” And they asked, hal al-mu’min yaznee, “Does a Muslim, a believer do adultery?” He (s) said, rubbamaa, “Might be.”

You might be a Muslim and you say, “Laa ilaaha illa-Llah Muhammadun Rasoolullah,” and you fast and you pray, but you steal. Might be that you have bad character or you make zinaa (commit adultery), which is a big sin.

(Hadith narration continues.) And then they asked, hal al-mu’min yakdhib, “Can a believer lie?” He said, fa amma haadhihi fa laa, “As for that, no, you cannot lie!”

It means you cannot lie on what you already promised Allah to follow, to do. If you are a Muslim, you cannot lie as lying is not accepted in Islam, because if you lie for dunya then it is easy to lie for Akhirah. Whatever contract you made with Your Creator, and that contract was on the Day of Promises when Allah asked, alastu bi rabbikum, “Am I not your Creator?” and we all said, balaa, “Verily, yes!” As soon as we said, “balaa,” there was a contract that we signed.

What is that contract? “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah, wa iqaamu ‘s-salaat wa itaau ‘z-zakaat wa sawmu ramadan wa hajju ‘l-bayt.” Finished! You signed that contract, you cannot breach it; if you breach it, you lied. That is the lie, not to lie in general, which is also a sin, but not lying on your contract that you signed in front of Allah in the Divine Presence. You made Shahaadah and said, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah,” and you promised to pray the five prayers and fast and to pay zakaat and to make Hajj. You signed at that time, so you cannot now say, “No,” lying to Allah (swt). So however you think of Allah, that is what you get. If you think, “Yaa Rabbee! You are The One Who forgives everything, You are The One Who raises everyone, so raise us!” then we can take that opportunity and ask now, and this is before Maghrib and before breaking fast, we say, “Yaa Rabbee, raise us to be with the Prophet (s)!” Will Allah say no?

Wa rahmatee wasi`at kulla shayin fasa’aktubuhaa lilladheena yattaqoona wa yu’toona ‘z-zakaata wa ‘Lladheenahum bi ayaatina yu’minoon.
My Mercy encompasses everything. That (mercy) I shall ordain for those who do right and practice regular charity and those who believe in Our Signs. (Surat al-`Araaf, 7:156)

“My Mercy has widened to encompass all things and I will write it for those who have taqwaa, who fear Allah and those who give charity and those who are mu’min, I will dress them with My Rahmah!”

We are all saying, “Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa-Llah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadu ‘r-Rasoolullah,” in this one hour before Maghrib. May Allah make that hour the blessed hour, the hour of forgiveness and to make all our days and nights to be like that one hour of Friday when all du`a are accepted!

Wa min Allah at-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

Our Way is Companionship, Not Backbiting

A`oodhu billahi min ash-Shaytaani 'r-rajeem. Bismillahi 'r-Rahmaani 'r-Raheem.
Nawaytu 'l-arba`een, nawaytu 'l-`itikaaf, nawaytu 'l-khalwah, nawaytu 'l-`uzlah,
nawaytu 'r-riyaadah, nawaytu 's-sulook, lillahi ta`alaa fee haadha 'l-masjid.

Allah (swt) has mentioned to everyone of us to follow the way of the Prophet (s), and Allah (swt) has put a condition that, “If you want to follow the way of the Prophet (s) you have to fulfill a requirement. If that requirement is not fulfilled then it means you are not able to fulfill the way of the Prophet (s), which leads to Me.” And really, to follow the footsteps is not easy. Some can and some cannot.

Those who cannot are of two types: some ignore it and do not follow and some follow, but they struggle. So the first category are those who are able to do it, the awliyaullah, because they have been prepared for that, to be able to pass these obstacles, and they already passed them, and they fulfilled the requirements to be able to follow the Prophet (s). Those who cannot: some of them struggle and some of them completely ignore, they don’t care.

So what is that requirement that leads us to follow the footsteps of the Prophet (s)? It is as many sincere pious servants of Allah (swt) whom Allah has blessed with inspirations, with ilhaam--wahiyy is only for prophets but for normal people there is ilhaam--those whom Allah gave inspiration in their hearts, because they were fulfilling the first requirement to follow the Prophet (s). And this is the famous declaration of Sayyidina Shah Naqshband (q), the head of the Naqshbandi Order that has been called after him, because he spread it everywhere, from Central Asia to India, to China, to the Subcontinent and everywhere. From him spread the famous declaration by imitating the way of the Companions, Ashaab an-Nabi (s), imitating them in following the Prophet (s), and being his Sincere Companions. That is why they are called “Sahaabah”, means Ashaab an-Nabi (s), the Companions of the Prophet (s). Sayyidina Shah Naqshband (q) understood that power and that secret, that everything comes through companionship. The Companions of the Prophet (s) gave their life to the Prophet (s) and to his family, they gave everything to him; they loved him and they loved his family.

So there is a requirement of taking a guide, a shaykh to guide you, as the Sahaabah (r) were guides for the whole ummah. We cannot ignore and say, “There are no guides.” If there are no guides why did Allah (swt) have to send the Prophet (s)? Why it is said in the hadith:
أولياء الله تحت قبابي لا يعلمهم غيري
Awliyaa’ee tahta qibaabee, laa ya`lamuhum ghayree.
My saints are under My domes; no one knows them except Me. (Hadith Qudsi)
So Allah is telling us through the Prophet (s) that there are guides for people. Not everyone is a wali, not everyone is someone that Allah will take forward; it depends on what we are doing and what our `amal is. So then we are in a type of struggle and mixed up. So Sayyidina Shah Naqshband (q) had to make a declaration, that is following the hadith of Prophet (s):

أصحابي كالنجوم بأيهم اقتديتم اهتديتم
As-haabee ka 'n-nujoom bi ayyihim aqtadaytum ahtadaytum.
My Companions are like stars (on a dark night); whichever of them you follow, you will be guided.
(`Abd ibn Humayd, ad-Daraqutnee, ibn `Adiyy, ibn `Abd al-Barr.)

So Sayyidina Shah Naqshband (q) understood that secret, that principalship of accompanying the guide, that Allah (swt) blessed the Sahaabah (r) to follow the Prophet (s) through one principle that we will mention at the end. So Shah Naqshband (q) said, Tariqatunaa as-suhbah wa ‘l-khayru fi ‘l-jami`eeah, “Our way is companionship and the best is in the gathering;” as-suhbah, to be together, because to be together is as the hadith:

يد الله مع الجماعه
Yadullaaha ma`al-jama`ah.
The Hand of Allah is with the congregation. (Tirmidhi)

As-suhbah, association, has to be khaaliya mina ‘l-fitan, free of any fitna, any kind of confusion, meaning, we don’t sit and discuss any backbitings and false rumors and confusion; it has to be free of that as our association is for Allah (swt) and Prophet (s), for naseeha, for advice, not to harm others or to pick on this one or that one, then that is not an association, that is not tariqah, finished. That is like a toy you play with it, like a child when in need to play and when you get bored you throw it. So people who sit in an association and that association is for fitna, is like a person who plays with a toy for some time and when done with it throws it away. That has no taste, no meaning and no value, but the association that Sayyidina Shah Naqshband is speaking of is an association where as soon as people sit together, if it is free of any backbiting or any sin, that Mercy of Allah and tranquility will descend on that gathering and fill the hearts with peacefulness.

لا يقعد قوم يذكرون الله عز وجل إلا حفتهم الملائكة، وغشيتهم الرحمة ونزلت عليهم السكينة، وذكرهم الله فيمن عنده‏"‏
Laa yaq`udu qawmun yadhkuroona ‘Llaaha illaa haffat-humu ‘l-malaaikatu wa ghashiyatuhum ar-rahmatu wa tanazzalat `alayhimu ‘s-sakeena wa dhakarahumu ‘Llaahu feeman `indahu.
No people sit in a gathering remembering Allah, but the angels surround them, mercy covers them, tranquility descends upon them and Allah remembers them before those who are with Him. (Muslim)

So he understood that secret and said that declaration, as Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, said, “He said it 24,000 times in his life: tariqatunaa as-suhbah wa ‘l-khayru fi ‘l-jami`eeah, our way is association or companionship, wa ‘l-khayru fi ‘l-jami`eeah, and the best is to be together in the gathering,” because the Prophet (s) said:

يد الله على الجماعة
Yadul-Llahi `ala ‘l-jama`ah.
Allah's Hand is over the group. (at-Tabarani)

That means Allah's Mercy is standing, waiting by Allah’s Order to descend or not. If the association is for Allah and His Prophet (s), it will descend. If you backbite and bring an issue that is not appropriate, it will kill that association. So any association that you speak about someone, right or wrong, you have no right because:

الفتنة نائمة لعن الله من أيقظها
Al-fitnatu naa'imatan la`anallaha man ayqazhahaa .
Fitna is dormant and Allah cursed the one who awoke it. (ar-Rifa`ee in his Amalee)

Fitna is dormant, Allah will curse who spreads it out. If you have a problem with someone, keep that problem between you and him, don’t spread it. Why are you spreading it, for what reason? When you spread something, you are bringing the dirtiness that you are going to smell and the people who are sitting around you are going to smell. For what?

الدني جيفة و طلابها كلابها
Ad-dunya jeefatun wa tullaabuhaa kilaabuhaa.
The world is a carcass and those who seek it out are dogs. (wise saying)

You are backbiting for this dunya? You are spreading rumors and making difficulty and problems for this dunya? Grandshaykh (q) always used this example: ad-dunya jeefatun, “This world is a carcass, and those who are students of it--meaning those who run after it--are like dogs, who run after the carcass.” Allah (swt) gave you the sweetness of Islam, the sweetness of imaan, the sweetness of Holy Qur'an and to speak from hadith and Qur’an, that is sweetness, not to throw inside backbiting which are carcasses of people you are attacking for no reason.

So Sayyidina Shah Naqshband (q)...the whole tariqah is based on that, how to polish you. At the end, you have a rock with a diamond inside, and you try to clean it, clean it, clean it and you are fed up with cleaning it every time, so at the end you throw it. How much polishing you need to do to stop all these fitnas in your life? At the end what will you do? You will throw it, you don’t have anything to do with this rock anymore, it is a rock, hit it with a hammer, it is a rock, stubborn, no mind. Always when you close your eyes, backbiting comes, and that is happening with everyone, that is a general problem.

When people sit together, and this is coming from news, `ilaam, media mostly, they throw on us and fill us with all their garbage and make the hearts of people black on each other. So he knew that secret, that reality: tariqatunaa as-suhbah. He didn't say, tariqatunaa al-gheeba, “Our tariqah is al-gheeba.” Sayyidina Shah Bahauddin Naqshband (q) said, Tariqatunaa as-suhbah wa ‘l-khayru fi ‘l-jami`eeah, “Our way is companionship and the best is with the good association.” Today we see it is changed, the declaration has been changed from “tariqatunaa as-suhbah wa ‘l-khayru fi ‘l-jami`eeah, our way is companionship and the best with the people” to “tariqatunaa al-gheeba wa ‘l-khayru ma` ash-shaytan.” This is what it is ending up: our tariqah is always fitna, always gheeba, always people speak about each other and they don’t stop.

Ibn `Abbas (r) mentioned when the Jews came to him, and there are two stories here: one of Grandshaykh, and one from the seerah, and they come to the same meaning at the end. The story from the seerah is that a group of unbelievers came to the Prophet (s) and said, “Yaa Rasoolullah,” actually they don't say that, as they are unbelievers, but we say it out of respect; they said, “Yaa Muhammad, when we pray to our Lord we focus, there are no gossips in our heart, no bad thinking in our heart. All of our people are focusing on Allah, on God, but you Muslims who believe in you, as soon as they go in the prayer we know they go everywhere, they don’t know how much they prayed already, three, or five or seven,” and the Prophet (s) didn't answer, he asked Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) to answer. The Prophet (s) is delicate and this needs someone strong to give a strong answer.

In Grandshaykh's story, Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) said to them, “Does a thief come to steal from a palace or to steal from a shack?”
They said, “Why are you asking, that is not relevant to our question.”
He said, “No, it is relevant, you will get the answer. Where will he steal?”
They said, “Of course the thief comes to the palace to steal.”
Sayyidina Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (r) said, “Yes, that is true, our hearts are like palaces and your hearts are like the shack. Our hearts are like palaces, they are full of Noorullah; Allah sends His Noor there, because the Noor prohibits the darkness. When there is no light it is dark, when there is no Sun it becomes night. So when the Sun disappears from your heart, it is a dead heart. When the Sun comes everything is alive. When Noorullah comes everything is alive, when Noorullah disappears everything is dead. So your hearts are dead, there is no Noor in it. So why Shaytan has to run after them and waste his time? He says, ‘Okay, leave these people; I can get them at anytime,’ but for mu’mins, he tries to run after them.”

Ibn `Abbas (r) relates the story in a different way, with the same ending, that the Jews came to him and said, “Why don't you focus in your prayers, like we focus in our prayers?” And he answered, Sayyidina Ibn `Abbas, who is the biggest muhaddith whom Prophet (s) prayed for, for Allah to open to him a special light for Tafseer al-Qur’an, giving interpretation of Holy Qur'an, he is the biggest mufassir of Holy Qur'an. He said, “Your hearts have nothing in it and ours are full of Noorullah, Light of Allah. So why Shaytan has to go to you to waste his time? He goes after those who are full of light.” So unfortunately the light has been taken away now, there is no light. There is a name but no body, before it was a body with a name. Before, all tariqahs, all Sufi Orders were persisting on their followers to continue in their Shari`ah understanding before taking them as students in Tasawwuf. Imam Malik (q) said, man tafaqqaha wa lam yatasawwaf faqad tafassaq, “Whoever studies Shari`ah without Tasawwuf will be corrupt, will be a heretic,” wa lam tasawwafa wa lam yatafaqqaha faqad tazantak, “and whoever studies Tasawwuf without Shari`ah will become a hypocrite,” wa man tasawwafa wa tafaqqah faqad tahaqqa, “and whoever studies Shari`ah and Tasawwuf will be on the Correct way.” Anyone who behaves as a Sufi person, and behaves as a Shari`ah person has two wings, he can fly. That person has dived in the Ocean of Knowledge. Other than that you are wasting your time.

Sufis do not backbite! Sufis must learn Shari`ah and Haqeeqah, they must combine the knowledge of spirituality, of realities, that was given to Sayyidina Khidr (a) and the knowledge of how to behave, fiqh, the Shari`ah that was given to Sayyidina Musa (a). The Prophet (s) combined them, that is why Islam is perfect: it is a combination of haqaaiq, realities and the constitution, ahadeeth and fiqh, to learn how to behave in your daily life. You cannot take one and leave the other! You can, but then you are not complete; your plane cannot take off, it needs two wings.

In every tariqah the followers study Shari`ah, they must! In the Naqshbandi Order or other orders, everyone must study Shari`ah in order for the teacher to give you baya` or else your baya` is...the shaykh will carry you but you have no knowledge, you are always falling into the trap of Shaytan who will pull the carpet from under you, and you will be lost.

So Sayyidina Shah Bahauddin Naqshband (q) knew that reality: tariqatunaa as-suhbah wa ‘l-khayru fi ‘l-jami`eeah, “Our way is companionship and the best is in the gathering,” and he knew the importance of the Shaykh, the presence of the Shaykh. We mentioned in the previous suhbah about dhikrullah that if you see a shaykh who is a dhaakir, he is always doing his dhikr, his awraad, his prayers, then follow him, he will guide you; if not, don’t follow him as that might lead you somewhere that you will lose. Look at the Shaykh, halwah fee ghaflah, if he is heedless then he will mislead you. The Shaykh must not be heedless, his heart must be present. Unfortunately you might find in every tariqah representatives who are heedless. Whatever names and title you have, if your association turns into backbiting and nameema, that association is thrown in your face, it is not accepted. That association will become: tariqatunaa al-gheeba wa ‘l-khayru ma`a ash-Shaytan. It’s a new name, it is not the original tariqah, not the way of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah (swt) give him long life. That is not his tariqah. Allah (swt) said in Holy Qur’an:

لاَّ يُحِبُّ اللّهُ الْجَهْرَ بِالسُّوَءِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ إِلاَّ مَن ظُلِمَ وَكَانَ اللّهُ سَمِيعًا عَلِيمًا
Laa yuhibbu ’Llaahu ’l-jahra bi ’s-sooi mina ’l-qawli illa man zhulima wa kaana Allaahu samee`an `aleema.
Allah loves not that evil should be voiced in public except where injustice has been done, for Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing. (Surat an-Nisa, 4:148)

Allah (swt) does not like someone to expose everything except if he is oppressed; he has the right to stand in the face of whoever oppressed him. As-saaqitu `ala ‘l-haqq, shaytaanu ‘l-akhris, “The one who keeps quiet from haqq is a deaf and dumb Shaytan.” Anytime you turn your majaalis into majaalis of gheeba and nameema that is not fair for anyone, you are making people to run away from tariqah with such behaviors. I am seeing many, because of some representatives. People are not liking their ways; their way is no Shari`ah, and no Tasawwuf even, only by name. In many tariqahs it is like that, the secret is gone, the secret is in the hand of the Prophet (s), because jahl has to cover the Earth. When the Prophet (s) was asked about Signs of Last Days, he said:

يَكُونُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّامٌ يُرْفَعُ فِيهَا الْعِلْمُ وَيَنْزِلُ فِيهَا الْجَهْلُ وَيَكْثُرُ فِيهَا الْهَرْجُ وَالْهَرْجُ الْقَتْلُ
Yakoonu bayna yadayy as-saa`ati ayyaamun yurfa`u feehaa al-`ilm wa yanzilu feehaa al-jahl wa yakthuru feehaa al-harj wa ‘l-harju al-qatl.
Just before the Hour, there will be days when knowledge will disappear, ignorance will become widespread and there will be much Harj, and Harj means killing. (Ibn Majah)

Ya`umm al-jahl wa yakthur al-qatl wa wa yurfa`u al-`ilm, “Ignorance will be filling the Earth, killing will be everywhere and knowledge will be lifted up,” and this is what we are seeing today: millions are in demonstrations, thousands are being wounded and some are being killed, and that is in the country where it is written on the airport in a stone, engraved on a big sign: idkhuloohaa bi ‘s-salaami aamineen, “Enter here in peace and security,” as it is the country of Sayyidina Musa (a). Idkhuloohaa bi ‘s-salaami aamineen, “Enter in it and you will be peaceful,” but where is that safety now? There is no safety!

And Sham is kinaanatullah fi ‘l-ardh, “The holy place on Earth”, where Allah’s `Arsh is going to descend on the Day of Resurrection, according to the hadith of Prophet (s), it will descend between the graves of the wives of the Prophet (s), the grandchildren and children. It will take place in that land and there are many Ahlu ‘l-Bayt buried there, khaassatan Sayyida Zaynab (r) and many Ahlu ‘l-Bayt. There is going to be the Day of Resurrection. Allah (swt) by kun fayakoon, will make it as big as He wants, no limitation, and the `Arsh will descend there. What is happening there? Killing, killing, killing every day, destroying the country, destroying that city. That is Signs of the Last Days: yurfa`ul-`ilm, knowledge will be lifted up, ya`umm al-jahl, ignorance must fill the Earth. They asked the Prophet (s), “Yaa Rasoolullah! Will the Holy Qur'an be taken up?” He said, “No, but by mawt al-ulama, the death of the `ulama, there is no substitute, there is jahl.”

Today too many jahls around, ignorance from people calling themselves names, but in reality what they have done is harming tariqah. I know many people, big scholars around the world who say, “We love Mawlana Shaykh Nazim a lot,” they say, “He brought so many to Islam.” No one brought to Islam as many as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah (swt) give him long life. (Ameen!) But between those who consider themselves “representatives”, they do things that are not acceptable. What I mean by this is, if that is between them and Allah (swt), that is okay, they do whatever they like, Allah may or may not forgive them; Allah yuhibbu ‘s-sittr wa huwa ‘s-sattar, “Allah likes to cover the sins of His servants, He is as-Sattaar, He is the Veiler,” but if you have a problem between two people, there is one oppressor and one oppressed, then on the Day of Judgement Allah (swt) has to take the right of the oppressed from that oppressor before He judges him for His own rights.

Therefore, if anyone backbites in an association, in a masjid, in a zawiya, in a place where it is forbidden to speak about people, now between you and Allah you do whatever you like, it’s up to you, it is free. Huqooqu’Llah `azza wa jall wa huwa yatasarraf bihaa, Allah (swt) with His rights He will deal with it, He is not like us, He will forgive, but the rights of the people are one to one. That is the problem. So when an association turns into backbiting, someone has to stand for haqq, and those who stand for haqq Allah (swt) supports them, although the oppressor doesn't like that, he might be oppressing more on them, but Allah (swt) is rewarding them. On Judgment Day Allah (swt) takes from the oppressor his hasanaat and gives to the oppressed ones. Those who expressed their feeling and their love, but they have their reservation on some issues, you don’t go and attack them in an association, in a gathering of tariqah, or a gathering of dhikr or a gathering of Shari`ah or fiqh, that is not acceptable. It is an order from the Prophet (s); it is an order of the Prophet (s) that we have to stand for haqq.

When he asked the Sahaabah (r), maa huwa afdal ul-jihaad, “What is the best of jihad?” Is there anything higher than jihad? There is nothing higher than jihad, but the Prophet (s) put something higher than jihad under the title of jihad. “The best of jihad, the best struggle, the best to defeat the enemies, which is higher than that is kalimatu `adl or kalimatu ‘l-haqq, a word of justice or a word of Truth, `inda sultaanin jaa'ir, in front of a king or emperor who is a tyrant.”

أفضل الجهاد كلمة عدل عند سلطان جائر
Afdal al-jihad kalimatu `adlin `inda sultaanin jaa'ir (in another version, aw kalimat al-haqq).
The best jihad is a word of justice (or a word of truth) before a tyrannical king.
(Related from Abi Sa`eed al-Khudree in Tirmidhi’s Sunan)

For a sultaanin jaa`ir, a tyrant king you have to express your rights, or you can leave it to Judgment Day, but it is jihad for you if you say it in front of a tyrant king or leader. That applies to anyone who makes fitna for nothing, for a little bit of flattering himself, and people flattering him, he goes along without checking the reality, and sitting like an emperor, saying things falsely, attacking people with no reason and using tariqah to do that and using Shari`ah to do that. That person, and those who do that are wrong, they have to come back and ask forgiveness from everyone that they have attacked wrongly, even attacked correctly. Don’t you know that Allah is as-Sattar, Allah is the Veiler, He covers your sins, covers your mistakes? Allah (swt) does not like someone to say anything bad about anyone. I never saw Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, may Allah give him long life, say anything against anyone. They follow the way of Prophet (s). The Prophet (s) never in his life said, laa, “No” to anyone, so we must not say, “No.” Many without feeling think they are doing right. No, the eyes of people are open, they have intelligence, they have eyes, ears and wisdom. How many times did Grandshaykh say, may Allah bless his soul, and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim say, may Allah give him long life, the story of Sayyidina `Ali (r) to the Sahaabah (r)? Sayyidina `Ali (r) was like the queen of the bees, all the Sahaabah (r) ran to his knowledge, where the Prophet (s) said:

أنا مدينة العلم و علي بابه
Anaa madinatu 'l-`ilmi wa `Aliyyun baabuha.
I am the City of Knowledge and `Ali is its Door (or Gate). (al-Haakim, Tirmidhi)

“I am city of knowledge and Ali is its door.” How many times Grandshaykh, may Allah bless his soul, and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah give him long life, spoke about that story of Sayyidina `Ali (r) who said to the Sahaabah (r) that, “All of Holy Qur'an is based on one issue: makhaafatullah, the fear of Allah.” Don’t you have fear of Allah (swt)? When he says, “Makhaafatullah, the fear of Allah (swt),” don't those who backbite fear Allah (swt)? As I said, if you do a sin it is between you and Allah (swt), but if you involve the rights of someone, oppressing someone, then Allah (swt) will not forgive that right; He might forgive His Judgement on other than the right of the oppressed, but He has to take all the hasanaat of the oppressor and give to the oppressed and give all the sayyi`aat of the oppressed to the oppressor. Think well! Did you leave your mind?

So Tariqah is not gheeba. Tariqatunaa al-gheeba wa ‘l-khayru ma`a ash-Shaytan: is this the tariqah that Sayyidina Shah Bahauddin Naqshband (q) mentioned, or did he say, Tariqatunaa as-suhbah wa ‘l-khayru fi ’l-jami`eeah, “Our way is companionship and the best is in the gathering.” Our way is associations and suhbah is the sweetness of the association, the love of the association. You cannot be in one place giving tasteful speeches and in another private place you attack and backbite, that cannot work, or then you are a hypocrite. Why don’t you continue speaking nicely? Why do you want to jump into backbiting? Did you not hear the hadith of the Prophet (s):

إذا أراد الله بعبد خيرا جعل له واعظا من قلبه
Idha araada-Llaha bi-`abdan khayran ja`ala lahu waa`izhan min qalbih.
If Allah wants goodness for a servant of His, He will make for him an advisor in his heart.
(Imam Ahmad)

All of us heard the hadith of Prophet (s), “If Allah loves someone He will give him a guide in his heart,” meaning He will inspire him to guidance, He will not inspire him for backbiting. So that’s where we can balance that person or these people. If Allah loves you, loves a group, loves one, two or ten, then Allah (swt) makes a guide for them within their hearts, He will inspire them through their life. But Allah (swt) does not guide you to backbite; if you are backbiting then it means Allah is not guiding you from your heart, but it means Shaytan is guiding you and is filling your heart with satanic rumors and fitna and backbiting, which means Allah does not love you. If Allah doesn’t guide you, it means He doesn’t love you; if He guides you, He loves you.

So anyone who backbites, and this is a sickness that is contagious and spreads everywhere today, every family speaks against each other. Don’t look outside the family, look inside your house: they backbite each other, they have fitna against each other, and we are in a big house, a compound of the tariqah; tariqah is the big house for every mureed. Instead of looking to the role model, Mawlana Shaykh Nazim, may Allah give him long life, they look to those who claim they are representatives. I am not saying... the Shaykh will pick whom he likes: he likes to pick his son we accept, he likes to pick someone else we accept, whomever he picks we have no problem with that, let that be known, we have no problem with that. Whom he decides on, it is his choice. Our choice is to accept and follow, we have no problem with that. The problem we have is those who think themselves that they fit to that position and create backbiting and rumors and fitna, and cheating and deceiving in many ways, and there are too many of that, that is haraam. That means there is no love.

So go back to the beginning of the lecture. It means if Allah (swt) doesn't love a person or persons, He doesn't guide them or makes someone to guide them through their hearts. If there is no guidance through your heart, it means there is no love to you from Allah (swt). Allah loves His servants and He said in the Holy Qur'an to follow Muhammad--it is a condition there--and to come to him and to follow his ways you have to have love to Allah (swt)!

Allah (swt) said:
Qul in kuntum tuhibboona 'Llaaha fattabi`oonee yuhbibkumullaahu wa yaghfir lakum dhunoobakum w 'Allaahu Ghafooru 'r-Raheem.
Say (O Muhammad), "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me! Allah will love you and forgive your sins, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Surat Aali-'Imraan, 3:31)

In kuntum tuhiboon Allah, if you love Allah (swt) as you claim, then follow Sayyidina Muhammad (s), fattabi`oo Muhammad, then at that time if you follow Sayyidina Muhammad you are showing the signs of love; if not, you have no love. Is Sayyidina Muhammad (s) telling us to backbite or he is forbidding us to backbite? He is forbidding. So why are we backbiting? Allah (swt) is saying, “If you love Me, follow the footsteps of Prophet (s) and He will love you and forgive you your sins.” He will forgive the sins between you and Him, but He will not forgive you for backbiting someone who now has rights on you because you oppressed him, until He takes the rights of the oppressed from the oppressor, and this is for sure.

We ask Allah (swt) to forgive us and not to make our associations those for backbiting. (Ameen.) Dunya is running, you are leaving and going and not taking anything with you, but the role model will be the role model forever; the good reputation of someone will be his good reputation forever. How much the Prophet (s) was abused? Every moment of his life he was abused, by his family, and because of his love to his ummah, he doesn't want his ummah to be abused, so he said, “Don’t backbite, because you are abusing my ummah.” The Prophet (s) said, “I am the one most abused between prophets, and I don’t want anyone of my ummah to be abused. I am for everyone.” If we are really tariqah people, we do not abuse people by backbiting, there is no benefit. This applies to those who backbite, we are giving awareness to people not to backbite and spread confusion. Didn't we learn that al-fitnatu naa'imatan la`anallaha man ayqadahaa, fitna is dormant, Allah will curse who brings it up?

What is the benefit? There is no benefit in dunya and Akhirah, but there is a disadvantage that people who backbite will be questioned. And those who play with the words--some people may say something, but they don’t play with the words, but those who play with words--they are like the hyena, zi`ab, they play game with the fareesa, the victim, toy with the prey then jump on it. We don't want to be a bad example for other people. Kamaa tudeenu tudaanu, as you judge people you will be judged, no running away. The Day of Judgment is coming, we say, “Yaa Rabbee! Forgive us, forgive them, forgive everyone.” As the Prophet (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha (r), when she asked about Allah's punishment to those who don't pray, he said, “Don't say that, don’t judge, because man hoosib u`dhdhib.”

من ُحوسب يوم القيامة عذّب
Man hoosiba yawm al-qiyaamati u`dhdhib.
Whoever is reckoned on Judgment Day will be punished. (Bukhari)

For those who are listening on the Internet, man hoosiba u`dhdhib, which means whoever is audited by Allah (swt) for sure will be punished. Ask that Allah (swt) not call you for questioning, for auditing. He will find the smallest sin and make it big if He wants. Sayyidina Muhammad (s) said to Sayyida `Ayesha (r), “O `Ayesha! Pray to Allah (swt) that you are not asked for questioning. For sure anyone asked by Allah Allah will find something for him to be punished.” What about the one backbiting, and he is a tyrant leader? In one situation he says sweet things, where he sees that he cannot say too much on people so he gives them what they like to hear, and in another he is backbiting, he is an intelligent person, he makes plans and knows what to speak and what not to speak before each group. We have to be careful, and ask Allah (swt) to forgive us.

Bi hurmati 'l-habeeb, bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

llahumma fash-had inneee qad ballaghta! Allahumma fash-had inneee qad balaghta! Allahumma fash-had inneee qad ballaghta! “O Allah bear witness that I conveyed the message!”There was a sincere imam in Beirut at a mosque near our house from the Ottoman time and it is still there, and the khateeb there used to say after every khutbah, Allahumma fash-had inneee qad ballaghta, “O Allah bear witness that I conveyed the message.” So I remembered him just now and he reminded me to say that because this will wrap this speech for you. May Allah (swt) guide us to the Right Way. Allahumma fash-had inneee qad ballaghta, allahumma fash-had inneee qad ballaghta, allahumma fash-had inneee qad ballaghta.

Wa min Allahi ‘t-tawfeeq bi hurmati 'l-Fatihah.

Let us say: Bismillahi r -Rahmani r-Rahim. Shah-i Mardan, may the Divine Gifts coming to the Beloved, to Allah's Beloved, bring joy and comfort to us as well, may we be cheered. Lāilāha illa-llāh, Sayyiduna Muhammadan Rasulullah, salla-llāhu 'alayhi wa sallam.

Come to us, O Shah-i Mardan, your Lovers are in awe of you. Your words are so lovely, they are a source of wisdom, a source of strength and of honour. Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar. Let us say Allahu akbar, let us glorify our Lord. Let us praise our Lord, let us venerate Him, Allahu akbar. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, you have given honour to our assembly. You give us honour. You receive honour as much as you give it. There is no
weakness. A believer knows no weakness.

Shah-i Mardan says: For a believer there is no weakness! A believer is strong, powerful. The believer has the quality of the lion. Be as a lion! Don't be a pussy cat. As-salāmu ‘aleykum, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Welcome to you, welcome to the excellent assembly of Shah-i Mardan. Let's find welcome, let's find friendliness and contentment. May worldly sorrows and worries be far from us! Let us be refreshed. Our Lord has created us. What a great honour! What a great honour! Let us say this. What is the key word of honour? Its key word is Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. The key word for the assembly of honour is Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim.

Come, O Shah-i Mardan. Your Lovers are in awe of you! Our assembly's key word, its honour is Bismillahir-Rahmani r-Rahim. With these words, when you strike the ground it will split apart. Allahu akbar. The Greatness of God, Allah's Greatness. Say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim! Therein lies the secret. Therefore, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, let us say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Marhaba, O Beloved Friends! Marhaba, Welcome is from the heavens, it comes from the heavens. What a very great blessing. Our Lord has made us to be of the Children of Adam. He gave us this honour. Such honour as Allah Almighty gives us, no one else can give us. "Let My servants say, Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim, and I will relieve them of all their burdens. I do not take any burdens, but My Divine Favour takes away all their troubles and worries." One little drop of Divine Favour makes them go away.

O our Lord, O our Subhān, our Sultān! O son of Adam, search for honour! Do not look for rubbish, don't be a rubbish collector! Be a collector of precious gems, collect what is precious! Allah Almighty is giving it. O Shah-i Mardan, come to us! The field is yours. You are the Sultan. May strength and honour be given. It has been given, strength has been given to the sons of Adam. "My representative on earth", Allah Almighty has called him. What a great honour, to be the representative of Allah Almighty! But what times are we living in now? As the saying goes: Ignorance has taken hold of the world; even if they ask, no one knows about faith.

The world has become ignorant, it has entered the valley of ignorance. They do not enter the valley of light. Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar Allahu akbar. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan! Send us your support. Help us to say a few words, so we might find refreshment. So we might find joy and honour. Look to the magnificent Ka‘aba. How it puts on its robe of honour. I turned towards the qibla, I kissed the Ka‘aba. As a symbol of Your House, the Holy House, I kissed the magnificent Ka‘aba. Let us kiss it. Let us fall down in prostration. Do not prostrate before the Ka‘aba, but before the Lord of the Ka‘aba. Find in it refreshment. Be not ignorant.

Come, O Shah-i Mardan. May our assembly be an assembly of spiritual knowledge! Let us find ease and contentment. This does not mean weakness. If one gazes at the Ka‘aba, his heart begins to shine. It finds honour and contentment. It (your heart) experiences a wondrous state. When we turn towards the Ka‘aba, saying Allahu akbar, a robe of honour is dressed upon us.

Come, O Shah-i Mardan. Speak to us! Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, wa li-llahi l-hamd. What can we do? From Shah-i Mardan we manage to take just a little bit. We want to grow stronger. We ask not for animal strength, but for spiritual strength. Animals know nothing of adab, good manners. One who has spiritual strength knows about adab. Learn about adab. When you say Allahu akbar at the Holy House of the Ka‘aba, it is as if on earth you had embraced the Throne of the Almighty Lord.  May this be given to us, too.

O Shah-i Mardan, your Lovers are in awe of you. May our strength not decrease, may it grow. We ask for this, we ask according to our condition. Ask to be given from Allah Almighty's boundless stores of treasure. Do not ask for anything of this dunya, God forbid! This world has no value. Let us embrace the Baytullah, Baytullah, the
Holy House that Allah has consecrated and made glorious through His very own Name, the Ka‘aba-i Mu‘azzama. With His exalted Name let us say: Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Let us destroy shaytan's, we won't call it a kingdom, but his junkyard, his scrap heap; this world is shaytan's rubbish dump -shaytan's rubbish dump, this world. Do not look at the dunya! Take from the Holy Ka‘aba, take from it, so you might be refreshed! So you might find strength and honour! If you trample on the dunya, you will wreck it. In the Almighty's Presence, man passes for the "sacred human being". Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa takabbar wa tajabbar.

O Shah-i Mardan, your Lovers are in awe of you. They are asking, they want to see and they want to hear. They wish to love their Lord. Love! Love! Love! The Love of Allah. Love, the Love of the Beloved. Love, love those who are in love with them. Do not give your love to the world! Leave it be! So you might be gladdened. So many good things Allah Almighty has granted us! Kulla yawmin huwa fi sha'n. (55:29) "All His doings in this world are different [every day]." Ask! Ask to draw near to the Lord whose Existence is of Necessity, in order to find more joy, in order to take on even more love; to take on more respect and reverence.

O man! Try harder to draw close to your Lord, not to this world. You are Subhān, O our Lord! You are Subhān, You are Sultān. Subbūhun Quddūs, Rabbunāwa Rabbu l-malā'ikati wa r-ruh. They all praise Allah, mankind, jinn and the angels. Come, O Shah-i Mardan. Let not your cares, your worries and anxieties be concerned with the dung of this world. Be refreshed.

Come, O Shah-i Mardan. How lovely are your words! Let us be refreshed. He will see no worries in this world, and no trouble in the afterlife, man, Hazret-i insan. The sacred human being, for he has this quality of sanctity. Shaytan was jealous of him. He was referred to as Hazret-i Adam, why was he called that? His own name was Azāzīl. “It was not given to me, it was given to Adam”, he says. Out of anger shaytān disobeyed. Whereas he had been Azāzīl, he now turned into shaytān.

O people! Do not follow the way of shaytān! Rather the pure way, the totally pure course, come to us O Shah-i Mardan -the way of the prophets. When he was yet Azāzīl, from his grudge and anger he disobeyed. He did not say: “This is my Lord, He acts as He sees fit.” He did not say this, instead he rebelled. So he became shaytān. There are two ways: there is shaytān's way, and there is the way of the Sultān. Adhere to the path of the Lord of all Creation. What is the way of the Sultan of Prophets? Stick to it. It consists of being a servant to one's Lord, that is his way, his path. That is all he ever wanted. Therefore we say: ‘abduhu wa rasūluhu, His servant and His messenger. "I want nothing more than this", said the Holy Prophet, salla-llāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

Shah-i Mardan says this as well. We do not wish for the stuff of this dunya, we want no part of it. What we ask for is to hold to the path of our Holy Prophet, the Pride of the Universe, the Prince of both worlds, who is His servant and His Messenger. How lovely are the words of Shah-i Mardan! May our hearts be gladdened. The wine of Love, he who says Allah today, may he drink of it. He will be filled with love and ardour. Let us remain pure. We have not come here to this world to fill up the toilet. May love and ardour and joy, and the ranks and oceans of beauty that are beyond this and yet further beyond, be opened to us. Let us say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. That opens up the oceans of beauty. Forget about earthly beauties. The key to heavenly treasures, enjoyments and delights: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim is given to that servant. You, too, are sultan, he is told.

Come, O Shah-i Mardan. O Shah-i Mardan, since this is the case, the light of those lovers is brighter than the light of the sun. We have not come to this world in order to fill up toilet bowls. You must know this and make this known. For what have we come into this world? Did we come in order to fill up toilets? Far from it, God forbid. Allah Almighty did not send us to earth for us to fill up toilet bowls. He has sent us, so that our hearts would fill with love and longing. "Let them come and take from My Treasures. Let My servants take from My Emanations of Beauty. That is what I have sent them for. Not to fill up toilets, far from it." God forbid. Man, the sacred human being.

O our Lord, open this up for us. Whatever is our lot, however much is allotted to us, that is how much we are given. The words that Shah-i Mardan speaks to us are according to our level. Allah Almighty addresses His prophets in a different manner. The address of the prophets to their sultan, to the Pride of Creation (sas) is yet another. Their rejoicing is different, as is their beauty. Their joy and their pleasure are of a different kind. Go for those enjoyments, do not run after this world. Run after the source of divine joy, of divine delight and bliss, so that your might attain higher ranks, and so your hearts might be refreshed. So that your spirituality might be uncovered. Whoever pays no attention to his spiritual being is a beast.

Come, O Shah-i Mardan. Show honour also to the bee, the ant. Say that Allah created this ant and honour it. "He has shown honour to the creatures I have created". Therefore you will receive Divine Honour. Akrim! Tukram. Right? Show honour, so that you might be shown divine honour in return. Honour Allah's Creation, so that you too might receive honour. If you show honour to what is on earth, honour will descend on you from heaven, you will be honoured from above. Allahu akbar. Let us be lions. How lovely, how lovely, the Holy House of the Ka‘aba. Who is it for? He made it for His Beloved. Thus He commanded: wa idhāyarfa‘u Ibrāhīmu l-qawā'ida masjidi lharam. (2:127).

When Ibrahim raised up the foundations of the Holy House. What is this? It is a tremendous sign of respect that Allah Dhu l-Jalal bestows on His servants in that He dresses them in robes of honour. Whoever turns to Him, Allah Almighty dresses him with that respect, that honour. If you turn to Hiim once, you get it once. If you turn to Him five times, you get it five times. With each sajda All ah Almighty dresses a new robe upon you. Whoever comes to stand respectfully before his Lord -come, O Shah-i Mardan -will not be robed in the same dress, in the same gown. Each time he stands and recites Allahu akbar, he will be robed in a new robe of honour that descends from the Divine Throne. How lovely, how very lovely! But these foolish people do not run after this. They are running after the rubbishy world. They leave off their honour, and busy themselves with rubbish collection. Allahu Allah, Allahu Rabbi, mālī siwahu.

O our Lord, give us refreshment. Refresh us, so we might be cheered. Let us say: Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Say this and find refreshment. Every task is recorded. What is your task? Have you any other task than the service of our Lord? Which task brings you honour? What honour is there besides the service of the Lord? These people are mad. What is the greatest honour? The foremost task? The service of our Lord. Other than that, what are you busying yourselves with? Formerly there used to be gold, now they have done away with the gold and replaced it with paper. Now they are chasing this paper as a fox chases chickens, and running after this wicked world. They have lost all honour. You must know about your honour.

Come, O Shah-i Mardan. Shah-i Mardan has news of everything. Allahu akbar. Recite this and remain in your seat, don't do anything else. Your provision will descend from heaven, straight to your door, to your house. Allah. From on high a table will be spread before you. Allah Almighty does not cause you any trouble. It comes down in front of you, as does the sustenance of the people of paradise; pure provision comes to you also -without any struggle, without fighting, without cursing and swearing, without quarrelling it comes to you. It comes, He sends it. Allah Almighty, to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and the earths. He sends it to you. O our Lord, forgive us. May our hearts be refreshed and filled with good cheer. May all worry and grief depart from our hearts, may gladness enter into them. Let us be cheered.

O Shah-i Mardan, your Lovers are in awe of you. Let us say: Huuuu, Huuuu. Our Lord sends us from His boundless stores of treasure. What sort of things are there? Shah-i Mardan tells us about them. What kind of things? A time will come, when the people will run after them as the fox chases chickens. This is useless. Ehh. There will come a time when people will be confused. For such a time, what does Shah-i Mardan advise? hādha z-zamān zamānu s-sukūt wa mulāzamati l-buyūt. "A time will come for mankind, when the best way of life will be to speak nothing except the praise of the Lord, and the dhikr/remembrance of Allah. wa mulāzamati l-buyūt. Meaning: Stay in your houses." Do not go out. You cannot control things, you will be caught up in mischief.
Therefore, hadha z-zamān zamānu s-sukūt wa mulāzamati l-buyūt. In these times, don't speak out!

Do not engage in fighting with anyone! He tells us. Concern yourself with your own state, and stay at home. Now this is advice coming from the Prophet. Shah-i Mardan informs us of it: stay in your homes, and do not speak out. Let your talk be readings of the Holy Qur'an. Sit and read. That way no harm will come to you in this world or in the hereafter. Hādha z-zamān zamanu s-sukūt wa mulāzamatil-buyūt. Now such a time is coming. At this time the best advice to people is for them to not speak out. Do not deal with worldly speech. Wa mulāzamati l-buyūt, stay in place in your houses, do not venture outside. Busy yourself with the remembrance and dhikr of your Lord.

Don't go beyond that. You will find peace and comfort in it. You will be prosperous in your afterlife. All grief and sorrow will depart from your heart. Allah and His Messenger will send down honour upon you. O our Lord, may our troubles be taken from us, if it be Your will. Stay in your home, busy yourself with dhikr. Be quiet, do not get involved, and you will be at peace. Say this and have no fear. al-Fatiha.

Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim.

O lovers of Shah Mardan, may our day be beautiful, may our hearts be relieved. Marhaba, marhaba, O lovers of Shah Mardan. May we not be upset, may we be beautiful. Dunya, rubbish dunya. Dunya is not to be loved. Go ahead, O lovers of Shah Mardan. We ask. We ask for the kind favours of our Lord. Let’s say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. This is important. It is important to say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Salamun Qawlaan min Rabbin Rahim. (36:58) (Greeting from a Merciful Lord).

Go ahead, O Shah Mardan. Your lovers adore you. May our day be good, may the month of Muharram be honored, may it be blessed. So much and many, O lovers of Shah Mardan; favours of our Lord have no boundaries. Our Lord has many favours. Marhaba, O sincere ones, O lovers of Shah Mardan. May we open. It is a month of Muharram, a chosen month among all months. O lovers of Shah Mardan, go ahead. May the joy of this holy month come into our hearts, may its pleasure come. Let us ask from our Janab-ul Mawla. O lovers of Shah Mardan, let us ask. Let us ask from Shah Mardan. May our souls open.

Holy month. O dear friends, we are in a holy month. We ask for the kind favours of Janab-ul Mawla. O Shah Mardan. First of all, let’s wish and ask according to our condition. Our holy month is the holy month of Muharram. Let us ask from our Lord, let us ask from Hz. Ummuhan, (Hala Sultan) the great one of this country, the honor of this country. She is great, she is great. Our Ummuhan Sultan is great. She gives according to her greatness. Go ahead, O Shah Mardan. For several thousand years, our Ummuhan Sultan has opened her doors for us. Sultan, accepted in the presence of our Lord, you didn’t deprive us until now, you kept giving. Hz Ummuhan hasn’t deprived those who visit her. She didn’t sent us back empty-handed from her door until now. Ask. The door of the great ones is open. Ask. They give. Our endurance is according to our conditions.

O Ummuhan Sultan, we ask. We ask that it stops. The possessor and the great one of this world is Hz Ummuhan. Her miracles are evident. A miracle is the kindness of Janab-ul Haqq. Hz Ummuhan gave us and didn’t deny us. Hz Ummuhan favoured the nation for 1,500 years. She didn’t deprive us, she didn’t send us away from her door. She treated us with gifts. You give also. Give and you’ll be given. She is Sultan, ask from her. The Sultan doesn’t send anyone back empty-handed. Ummuhan Sultan watches us and favours those who visit her, those who love her; She favours them. That door doesn’t close. The door of the great ones doesn’t close. Does a door of the great ones close? Does a door of the Sultan close? It doesn’t. Let us say, O people of Muhammad SallAllahu alaihi wa s-sallam.

Let us say, for the honor of the Sultan, Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Her love, her affection; she gave us affection from her affection towards the Prophet SallAllahu alaihi wa s-sallam. We fell in love. Janab-ul Mawla made us love our Sultan. Love and be loved. Love and be loved. Don’t be dry. Go ahead, O lovers of Shah Mardan. How beautiful you are. How beautiful, how majestic you are, O Shah Mardan. A holy month, the month of Muharram has come. It comes with power, it will show Islam with its majesty. Our Ummuhan Sultan; let us kiss her feet, let us ask. They will lift everything from our shoulders. There is power, especially this Muharram. In Muharram, Sheikh Mehmet Efendi, there are amazing appearances during the month of Muharram. There is an amazing manifestation of sultanate. Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar wa Lillahi lhamd. Janab-ul Mawla didn’t leave it empty. The Month of Muharram didn’t come empty.

“Ghulibati r-rum” (30:2) (The Byzantines have been defeated)
“Wahum mimba’di ghalabihim sayaghlibun.” (30:3) (After their defeat they will win.)

It says Islam will win in Quran Azim-u Shan.

“Ghulibati ar-rum” (30:2) There is a manifestation, a power which will destroy our ego and lead to servanthood in this holy month. Sick ones will recover, we will. Weak ones will find strength, we will. Flags of Islam will rise.

“Ghulibati r-rum” (30:2) (The Byzantines have been defeated) Janab-ul Mawla is saying. Allah Allah.

“Ghulibati r-rum” (30:2) Your Lord is saying, Janab-ul Haqq Al-Qadir and Al-Muqtadir, your Lord will rescue you from weakness. He is Sultan. He won’t leave you despicable. At the door of Allah, our son Mehmet Efendi, a servant is not left despicable. He does servanthood only. That’s what He wants; do servanthood, don’t fear. Neither will you fall sick, nor become despicable, nor be defeated. “Ghulibati r-rum” (30:2) Allahu Akbar.

What news Janab-ul Haqq has for His servants. May our souls open. May faith be loaded into our hearts. O our Lord, You created us. How beautiful! How beautiful!

“Ghulibati r-rum” (30:2) (The Byzantines have been defeated)
“Wahum mim ba’di ghalabihim sayaghlibun.” (30:3) Al-Qadir Al-Muqtadir Allah.

Our Allah Jalla Jalaluhu, whose greatness has no boundaries, He will make us rejoice this holy month, the month of Muharram. “Wahum mim ba’di ghalabihim sayaghlibun.” (30:3) JanabAllah will open. Let us ask, let us ask. What is necessary from heavens? Ask for the favours of heavens, ask for the grants of heavens. Go ahead, O Shah Mardan, O dragon, a lion who swallows disbelief. He will swallow, destroy the falsehood. Falsehood cannot stand against the Truth. It will disappear.

Month of Muharram. Allah Allah. What power Muharram is giving. It is giving us power. ”Wahum mim ba’di ghalabihim sayaghlibun.” (30:3) Even though they appear as winners, ”Wahum mim ba’di ghalabihim sayaghlibun.” (30:3) they will be defeated. For sure, they will be defeated. Falsehood and disbelief will be destroyed. “Wahum mim badi ghalabihim sayaghlibun.” (30:3) Don’t sleep. Even though they appear as winners, they will be defeated. Understand it. O lovers of Shah Mardan, O listeners of the lions, listen and believe. Muharram is this month. So much honor has been given to all prophets. Power has been given to believers. Those without endurance have been loaded with strength, loaded with power. He is Allah Jalla Jalaluhu.

O lovers of Shah Mardan, find joy. Find joy. Don’t be desparate. Don’t be hopeless. Even once say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. It will crush the world, destroy disbelief. It will destroy disbelief. A single manifestation of Janab-ul Haqq, a single tajalli will destroy. The hearts of believers will be filled with faith. Go to Ummuhan Sultan. Kiss her hand. She won’t send you back without giving. She is Sultan. Our Ummuhan Sultan is Sultan. Cutting our hope… Why shall we cut our hope? Our holy honored Sultan is rewarded by heavens. Which month is this month? This month is the holy month when the distinquished flags of Islam will be raised. We are weak. However, if we say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim, we will open. Spirituality gives strength to a man. It gives joy. Look for possessors of spirituality.

O lovers of Shah Mardan, O friends of Shah Mardan, O servants of the Sultan, ask. Let us ask. Let us ask from our holy Sultan. May she load us with faith. Prophets are loaded with faith. They are loaded with faith. They load us with faith too. They load us with faith. You are Subhan, our Lord. O Shah Mardan, load us with faith. Give us the joy of heavens. Let us say Allah, we will destroy the disbelief of this world. Mashallahu kan wa ma lam yasha lam yakun. It conteracts the poison. It finishes the poison. The world shines in Muharram, the holy month in which power was given to all prophets. O lovers of Shah Mardan, be loaded. Ask to be loaded with faith. If he is not loaded with faith, he’s rubbish. Be loaded. They are saying: be loaded this month. Month of Muharram; be loaded. Be loaded with light. Be loaded with honor. Be loaded with faith, O lovers of Shah Mardan. We won’t be distressed. It is the month of Muharram. We won’t be distressed. Guard the door of Sultan. Receive light. Search for light. Light is received from the Sultan, not garbage. Light is received from the Sultan. Light is from heavens. On earth is rubbish.

O our Lord, may our souls open, may we get relief. May we rejoice, O lovers of Shah Mardan. Go ahead, listen, O friends. Don’t cry, be relieved. Be relieved. May she endow you. May our holy Sultan endow us. Let her say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim once, your needs will be vanish. Whatever need is asked, everything is given during this holy month. The power given to a Saint by our Lord who’s rich in favours, cannot be estimated. O lovers of Shah Mardan, let us embrace heavens. Let us be filled with the light of heavens. May our souls be filled with faith. May Your young servants be loaded with faith. Ask for faith. Ask for faith, don’t fear. Faith. The beauty of a believer is faith. A man without faith has no value. Be loaded with faith. It’s Muharram-ul Haram. Be loaded with faith. May Shah Mardan dress you in a beautiful adornment of faith. May we open.

Let us ask. Wish so that it is given. May Janab-ul Haqq give. So many Sultans, lovers, came and left. They were full, they asked for faith. JanabAllah gave faith. Ask for faith and Islam. May He dress you in the beauty of faith. May He dress you in honor. May Allah not deprive you. He doesn’t. He doesn’t. He won’t. He didn’t. It will open for us too. It will open for us too. Beauties of heavens will open. Go ahead, O Shah Mardan. Your lovers adore you. May our souls get relief and open. For more than a thousand years, JanabAllah keeps on giving his favours. No one who goes to His door is deprived. No one who calls to Allah is denied. O our Lord, we wait for Your love and bliss, favour us accordingly, ya Rabbi. May our love increase day by day, may our bliss increase. May our faith towards our Lord increase. Let us say O our Lord, our Subhan, our Sultan. Search for the Sultan. Don’t be without the Sultan. If you are without the Sultan, you’ll become rubbish. Don’t be rubbish. How do you become rubbish? Don’t be rubbish. Don’t run after rubbish.

O lovers of Shah Mardan, what beauties Janab-ul Mawla grants according to our conditions. You are Subhan, You are Sultan. You don’t send us away from Your door. We will do servanthood. We are created to do servanthood, my son. We weren’t created for dunya. We were created for servanthood. There is the Sultan. Show affection to the Sultan. Love the Sultan, O lovers of Shah Mardan. May we open. May our strength and power increase. A believer cannot be weak. A believer is strong. That strength will come. That strength will come. The strength comes. Our holy Subhan, our Sultan. Our Mawla didn’t deprive us. Even during childhood, favours come from our Sultan, beauties come, joy comes. Our souls open. So we go to our Sultan. The Sultan meets us. As soon as the Sultan meets us, as soon as the great ones meet us, our souls become filled with relief. Whoever leaves dunya, their souls are filled with relief. Nothing fills the souls of the sons of Adam, only love of our Lord Jalla wa ‘Ala, The bliss of His love, blessings and reverence. Let us be filled with these.

May our strength increase, Mehmet. Don’t be rubbish. Earth and skies won’t give you anything. What is given to your souls is from heavens. Let us ask. Ask for beauties of heavens. Ask for the bliss of His love. Dunya; what does it have? It has nothing. Who has everything is Allah Jalla wa ’Ala. Ask for Allah. Search for Allah. You’ll find everything. You are Subhan, ya Rabb. You are Sultan, ya Rabb. O lovers of Shah Mardan. Load our souls with the bliss of Your love, ya Rabbi. You have many saints who load/charge. You were loaded, may we be loaded too. May we be loaded with the bliss of Your love. May we be supplied with the bliss of Your love. May we not become rubbish. May we become jewels. May we be servants at the door of our Lord. O Rabb-ul Izzet, You grant a lot in this holy month. O lovers of Shah Mardan. Fill our souls with faith. Fill our souls with Islam. May our souls be filled with the blessings and miracles of Your love. We give our souls to You, O our Lord. Allahu Allah. Allahu Rabbi ma li siwahu illa Hu.

What shall we do in dunya? Dunya is rubbish. Never-ending rubbish. Don’t run after rubbish. Search for the door of the Sultan. Our Allah, our Subhan, our Sultan, load us with Your love and bliss, ya Rabbi. May Allah Jalla wa ‘Ala load us with faith. Faith comes from heavens. Subhana man ‘azza wa sha’nuhu. Allahu akbar. Subhana man ‘azza wa sha’nuhu. Our Allah, whose greatness has no boundaries. Ask so that He gives. O our Lord, we asked for our Sultan. We stood at the door of our Sultan. Don’t let us be sent away, ya Rabbi. Fill us with faith. Fill us with Islam. Fill us with the bliss of Your love. O our Lord, accept us for Your servanthood. May Allah call us His servants, that will be enough.

Salamun qawlam mir Rabbir Rahim. (36:58) (Greetings from a Merciful Lord.) Salamun qawlam mir Rabbir Rahim. How beautiful! What a beautiful addressing has reached us, O our Lord. Don’t separate us from the holy Sultans, ya Rabbi. May we open. May we rejoice. May we love, may we rejoice. May we get relief. May our souls be filled with the love of our Lord.

Fatiha.

The Taste of Life by Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Al Haqqani QS

Allah Almighty, for the sake of Shah-i Mardan let the roses bloom, and the nightingales sing. May our heart be gladdened. Come to us, O Shah-i Mardan. We wish for beauty. May Allah relieve us of what is tiresome to us. O Shah-i Mardan, you are in possession of all beauty. Let our hearts be joyful. Ask for joy, try to find gladness. Welcome to you, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Allah, You are Subhan, You are Sultan. In You lies all Beauty. Welcome to you, you have come with gladness. O our Lord, let us be joyful and glad. Our Lord, let us find gladness with our Lord. Let us be joyful. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. O cheerfulness of your beloved friends, O lovely assembly of those who love you and of those who are beloved. Come, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Let us ask and aspire to the lovely assemblies that are never boring or annoying, that make us cheerful and happy. Let us not have a life full of struggles. Let ours be a life that is happy and cheerful.

O our Lord, our Subhān, our Sultān, may our hearts open up. May our hearts be happy and beloved. Come to us, O Lovers, O beloved friends, Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Let us ask for, let us ask for beautiful things, let us ask to be in places that bring happiness and contentment. Let us be happy and contented. Let us fill up with light. Ask, and you will be given. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, let us be among the servants of Allah who do not grow weary, who do not get fed up or bored. mā shā’ Allāhu kān, wa mā lam yashā’ lam yakūn. mā shā’ Allāhu kān. Whatever Allah decrees comes to be, Doctor. Let our hearts open up, let us seek the happiness of which we don’t grow tired, and beauty which does not satiate, and ardent love that causes no surfeit. Let us not grow tired, do not weary of it! Perhaps our love will increase, and our physical being will fill with love. The greatest virtue is to be filled with Divine Love. May Allah grant us love and teach us and give us of His joyfulness.

You ask for happiness, Allah Almighty grants it to you, He gives you joy. O our Lord, grace us with happiness. Let us not fall into darkness. O beloved friends, through ardent love let us be filled with wonder and eager in our striving. Let us persevere in our efforts. People who are other than that are worthless. Therefore you must know what it is that you desire. Let us be filled with Divine Love, with Divine Fervour. Ask for love, he says. Seek love and ardour. Don’t stay in darkness, that is forbidden. Don’t stay in darkness, he says, come into the light. Come into the light, don’t remain in darkness. A life spent in darkness, what meaning has it got? Its meaning is nil, zero, it is darkness. Come out of the darkness, and run towards the light. O our Lord, our Subhān, our Sultān, don’t leave us in darkness, O Lord. Let us come into the light of ardent love.

O our Lord, grant to us paradise gardens where roses and nightingales sing for us. Grant us beauty and happiness. May our heart be cheered, may our heart be the Sultan. Let us search for beauty, beauty is what leads to love and ardour. Search for love and ardour, he says. O our Lord, You are Subhān, You are Sultān. You are Sultān. You are the One who grants ardent love, O Lord. We ask for love. I seek ardent love and beauty. In Your Presence I find everything. Come, O Shah-i Mardan, your Lovers are in awe of you. Ask for love and ardour that never fills you up. May Allah grant us such love and ardour as will never fill us. A heart not possessing this, is a dried up thing, bone-dry. There is no use in what is dried up. We are asking for the joy of love, the love which is granted to the believing servants of the Lord. We ask for love and ardour.
O our Lord, You are Subhān, You are Sultān. You are Subhān, You are Sultān. O man, run towards Him! Run towards your Lord, let us run towards our Lord. O our Lord, O Beauty of Beauties, that is our God. Whom are you looking for? Whom do you seek? What is it you are looking for? Love and ardour. Ask for Divine Love and Affection. Whoever looks for that will be revived with ardent love, he will come alive. A person without love or ardour is not even human. He is like a dry stick of wood, a dead stump. No. Be vibrant, be alive. How lovely it is to be alive, how lovely that is! What is it that gives us life? It is love and ardour. Ask for love, and act accordingly. With love you will come to know the meaning of life. You will be surrounded and engulfed by beauty. Swimming among the beauties of your Lord. Let us move among them, let us ask for that.

O our Lord, our Subhān, don’t drive us from Your gate! Therefore let us say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Say this; it is what opens the door to all that is beautiful, it opens the door to all beauty for the Lovers. Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. What opens all doors, the doors to all beauty, is Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. O Allah, don’t let us be like dry sticks of wood, O Lord. Fill us with love and ardour, O my Lord. Allah, our God, our Subhān, our Sultān. Grant us also from Your Love. Therefore you must say, O you Lovers, O you beloved ones – Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. A person without love is as a dry stick of wood. Love – what inspires people, what lets them feel the freshness of love and enthusiasm, is ardent love. O our Lord, may our hearts and minds be stirred and inspired. Let us say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. How lovely it is to say: Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. This is the service that wakes people up, and gives them love and enthusiasm and firm determination – to say Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. That is what we want, O my Lord.

We want some of Your fervent Love and Your Affection, O Lord. Don’t be a dry stick of wood. No. Be alive! Don’t be a lifeless stick. Be a fresh and lively twig. O Lord, grant us some love and ardour that will wake us and inspire us. Let us wake up. Let us taste the taste of love and ardour. Let us know what we are living for. Allāhu Allāh, Allāau Rabbī, mā lī siwāhu illa Hū. O our Lord, Your Lovers stand in awe of You. Your Lovers, Your beloved friends are in awe of You. You are in the midst of that feeling of awe. A person who has no sense of awe is totally dry and useless. Let us open up, O our Lord. May our hearts and inward feelings open up. Let us come to life, O our Lord, through Your Love. Let us not remain as dry sticks. Let us be filled with love and ardour, O our Lord. Amīn, O Lord, Amīn, O Lord. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, ask of that Divine Love, seek the ardour of love.

Let us try to serve according to our means and station. This is what is addressed to us, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. Come to us, O Shah-i Mardan. Whoever asks for Divine Love, whoever wishes Divine Ardour, let him come to the Divine Table, to the Divine Table laid out for us. May he find welcome there. Don’t sit there doing nothing. Come and take your place at the Divine Table of Love and Ardour, he says. How lovely. Come, O beloved friends of Shah-i Mardan. come together and step forth. Don’t remain dry as sticks, but fill yourselves with love and longing, because it is being given. It is the gift of Allah Almighty, His present, this Love and Ardour. Ask Him for that.

O you who are in love, O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, don’t sleep, wake up! Or ask and say: O my Lord, wake us up! The sweetest thing for man is love. It is love and affection. Ask for love, so that you might enjoy the taste of life in this world and in the hereafter. Don’t be a dry stick. Fill up with love and fervour. O our Lord, grant this to us. Let us be among those who are in love with You. Let us load up with love. What did you load while in this world? Say, I loaded up on love. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, load us up with love. When you loaded up with love, what was it that you loaded? Faith and favour, ardent love and joyfulness – that you must seek. It will be given. It will not be withheld, it will be given. Since it is given, you must ask for it and take. Look for nothing else. Look for this ardent love so it may restore you to life.

O our Lord, our Subhān, our Sultān. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan. O, search for the assembly of love and fervour frequented by those who love Allah, of the Lovers who adorn the assemblies of the blessed saints. O Allah, make it easy for us to stick to Your lovely way. O our Lord, allow us to walk in the way of those who are in love with You, O Lord. Leave us not as dried up sticks. Let us ask, let us ask Allah Almighty for love and ardour, let us be inspired. Let them inspire us with love and enthusiasm. O our Lord, there is none who turns away from Your door empty-handed. It is laden with faith and with Islam. They load them up with love and fervour. What is the load being loaded? It is love and fervour. What is his load? It is dung, manure. What is this going on here? Manure, he says. Eh, that is this guy’s load, that is his burden. What has he collected? He has collected manure, dung. Is he a man, that guy, is that a man? Can one who collects dung be called a man? Collect instead love and fervour.

Allah, You are beautiful and You have created Your Beloved (sallAllahu alayhi wassalam) to be beautiful. You have laden him with ardent love. May we be given even the slightest speck of that. O Shah-i Mardan, teach us. Let us enter, so we may see this ardent love. Let us experience its taste. A person unable to taste love and ardour is a dry piece of wood. He is a dry stick. A loveless person is a dry piece of wood. Burden yourself with love, burden yourself with the love of your Lord. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, the beloved friends are calling: O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan! O Allah, no one is greater than You. O our Lord, no one is more lovely than You. O our Lord, there is no one who has more gifts to give than You. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, Let us say Allah, let us ask of Him, He has everything. Who does not know to say Allah is deprived of everything. Seek Allah, and you will have found everything. If you do not seek Him, you will remain in a pile of dung – na‘ūdhu bi-llāh/ we seek refuge with Allah.

What beauty Allah Almighty has created! Know this and seek it. Say: O our Lord. Say: O our Lord and Master who has created all Beauty, You are what man desires. You who are the Absolute Master of all Beauty, it is You, O our Lord. Do not leave us among the deprived, O our Lord. Let us be such people who can be of use; that are given a share. Those who get nothing are the luckless ones. Love and respect. Savour the taste. Find flavour. Know the honour of servitude to Allah, know it, find it and search for it. Look for it. O our Lord, may our love unfold. Let your hearts open up, may our hearts open up. O Lovers of Shah-i Mardan, ask for this. Ask for it, so you will find it. Who doesn’t ask for it will not find it. That is our hope: that it may unfold for us as well. Let us be cheerful. Let us be among those who are alive. Let us not be among those who are dead.

O our Lord, You are Subhān, You are Sultān. Let us chase after Your Beauty. Let us run with the people who love You, O Lord. Yearning love, intense respect is for the beloved ones of the Lovers. O beloved friends, seek beauty. O beloved friends, seek love. Let us be filled with ardent love. For the sake of the Beloved(sallAllahu alayhi wassalam) of the Lord, and for the sake of al-Fātiha. Allāhu Allāh, Allāhu Rabbī, mā lī siwāhu illa Hū.

Marhaba. Welcome to you, O beloved friends. How lovely that you have come. What a lovely meal you have come to attend. Expand, you will unfold. Allāhu Allāh, Allāhu Rabbī, mā lī siwāhu illa Hū. Do not remain in darkness. Come into the light. Come to the seas of ardent love, plunge into them and be immersed. Don’t stay in darkness. Fervent love provides light. Whoever has no fervent love, will remain in darkness. May Allah grant us light. May He deliver us from darkness. O our Lord, Our Subhān, our Sultān. All of you, in shā’ Allāh, will become Sultān. Our Lord who has all Power and empowers all will grant this. Since He will give you, ask and take from Him. Seek precious stones, seek jewels.

Allāh, Allāh. Allāh Allāh, Subhān Allāh. Let us fill up with love and ardour, let ardent love fill us. Let us go hunting for bargains in that market. Let us shop for beauty, and not for rubbish.

al-Fātiha.
